Mary Travers passed away on September 16th. After successful recovery from leukemia through a bone marrow/stem cell transplant, Mary succumbed to the side effects of one of the chemotherapy treatments. We all loved her deeply and will miss her beyond words.

In gradeschool, our teachers taught us PP&M songs. I learned to love these songs as a child, and then began to understand them as I became a teen, when I first saw them live in Portland, Oregon. Now in my adult life, when I hear Mary's voice and see her authentic, passionate and expressive delivery, I still get chills every time.

Mary and PP&M have been a great gift to my life. That she had to leave this world fills my heart with sadness. But she left this world a better place, having given a voice to those who had none. She will be remembered for her incredible generosity, savvy wit, passion, honesty, courage and of course, her voice.

I too just saw the Carry It On PBS pledge break special and it brought up the sadness again. I really don't know how her family got through this but bless you. We pledged which is unusual for us as a memorial to Mary. Noel you are such a powerful person--we have communicated in the past. Hope you are doing ok. I'm so sad my new grand daughter will not see Mary perform as my son did.

J'aurai eu tellement de plaisir de vous rencontrer, vous entendre chanter et de passer un moment agréable avec vous et vos amis. Vous voir sur scène était un rêve... Je suis très triste.

Bisous depuis la France jusqu'à vous.

Nadine

I just watched a PBS Special on Peter Paul and Mary. Mary sang “For Baby” to her granddaughter, Wylie, on stage. It was a most moving and beautiful moment.

I have been blessed with three granddaughters. When Mary looked at her granddaughter, I recognized that look, it is the same look I have for my granddaughters.

The way her granddaughter looked at her, I had seen that look from my granddaughters, many many times also.

How sad that Mary had to leave her family. How awful that her granddaughters will not be blessed with that wonderful voice singing only to them.

I have been a fan of Peter Paul and Mary since the sixties, always a lover of folk music. The blending of their voices will never be the same again. She will be sorely missed. Heaven has another angel singing, we’ve lost a most beautiful angel here.

My deepest sympathies to Mary’s family, especially her daughters and granddaughters, my heart aches for all of you.

Mary was the first person we told that we were getting married. That was 24 years ago. We went from being fan (groupies really!) to friends; fron friends to feeling like family. Listening to our Mary (solo) and PPM CDs is bitter-sweet.

Thank you for this beautiful website and for all the information on the PP&M website. I was watching a PBS special tonight with PP&M and decided to turn it off and search online for biographical information. I am shocked that Mary is gone. I didn't know. My deepest sympathy to her family, colleagues, friends and fans.
