Mary Travers passed away on September 16th. After successful recovery from leukemia through a bone marrow/stem cell transplant, Mary succumbed to the side effects of one of the chemotherapy treatments. We all loved her deeply and will miss her beyond words.

WEEP NOT FOR ME

Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.

Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.

I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.

Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.

Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.

Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

Thank you for all you did. Some of my favorite songs growing up were those which included your angelic voice. You'll be missed dearly. God bless you on your journey and I know you'll make a wonderful addition to the heavenly choir. - Michael

I remember the first time I heard "Puff the Magic Dragon",I was in the 4th grade and was on a school bus, going home. It was Mary's voice that I remember, it was strong, sweet, and soothing all at the same time. She was true and sincere to the cause, in the chaotic 60s. When she sang you could feel the emotions spilling out of her. I've been to 4 of Peter, Paul, and Mary concerts and each time I walked away wanting more. Mary, you are and will be missed, especially by us, the "Baby Boomer" generation.

Dear Mary,

PP&M 's songs touched me when i was a child.
At that time , it was really a waste of land in terms of culture in China. When my mum sang "puff the magic dragon",the pure boy was surprised , what a beautiful song that is ! And in my memory, the pp&m tape was my best friend at home. i always danced to the melody and hmm hmm with the lyric althrogh English was a stranger to me .

It is PP&M that makes me pick up a guitar
and now i can write my own songs. My friends said , "oh horse, you are writing folk songs!”Well , i know this is all because of pp&m and i am just writing the songs that pp&m might like.

Mary, your voice is so touching that when i heard you sing i feel like standing in front of me. It is a regret that i have not been to pp&m 's concert.

I love your songs and i pray you can have a peaceful rest beside God.

In 2000 I saw this trio perform at our college campus here in Fort Smith, and then met each of them at a private reception afterward. I interrupted Mary's enjoyment of a sundae the first time I tried to meet her. She seemed rude (which was likely normal by New Englander and NYC standards). I'm glad I got to meet and speak to all three. I failed to mention that I saw, heard and liked Puff The Magic Dragon when I was a boy because when I met the trio I didn't know it was them who did that song. I was shocked and surprised to see Mary on the collage of 2009 memoriams last Sunday night on the Grammy Awards on TV. Late last year I caught some old concert footage while TV channel surfing but didn't know Mary had passed away. Yet another American music legend "blown in the wind" of change, mortality and time.

First saw PP&M live in 1969 at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. The sound system failed that night, but we heard every word they sang because the audience was so quiet. PP&M even led us in a chorus of "Puff".

Later, outside, Peter and Paul came out to speak to some of us, and I got them to sign my program. But Mary was not feeling well, so she did not come out.

Fast forward many years. PP&M were supporting a political candidate in Boston and gave a concert. Some young friends took me to the concert, and I brought my old program. Mary talked about how she was now a grandmother, and the "highs" did not come as easy now.

After the concert was over I went outside again. Peter and Paul ran past to get in the car, but when Mary came out I asked her if she would sign my 20 year-old program. She looked a bit shocked, recognized the program, and laughed as she signed it.

Today I still treasure that program and the people who made it possible, Peter, Paul, and especially Mary.

Mary, The love that you, Peter and Paul have shown to generations will never be forgotten. I enjoyed your music as a child and love to hear my children sing your songs and recognize "Peter Paul and Mary" when the songs come on the radio. Mary, your presence on this earth will be missed....we prayed for you when you were going through your treatment....you were included in our children's "night-night prayers" every night....Our hope is that Peter and Paul will continue to tour accompanied by your Spirit.
Peter and Paul....may God Bless you both and help you overcome the loss of your dear friend and comrade...
